McPherson, Jane, Ph.D., MPH, LCSW

Jane McPherson, Ph.D., MPH, LCSW, is an associate professor at the University of Georgia School of Social Work. In her evolving public-facing research and pedagogical project– Complex Cloth–she explores the entwined histories of the University of Georgia, race, labor, and social work in Athens, Georgia. As part of this larger project, she is currently preparing Judia Jackson Harris’s unpublished papers for publication in book form. Dr. McPherson is founding co-chair of the History cluster of the Society for Social Work Research. She is the co-editor of the 2022 book Human Rights in this Age of Uncertainty: Social Work Approaches and Practices from Southeast Europe. She develops, evaluates, and advocates for human rights-based approaches to social work practice in the U.S. and around the world. Her research is supported by a VCU Publishing Research Award.
